Le Temps d’Aimer la Danse — 36th edition

📍 Biarritz · 20h30

Culture · Dance · Le Temps d’Aimer

This is the major event of the autumn season, by some distance. For twelve days dance takes over Biarritz and the whole Basque coast: around twenty companies, world premieres, and more than forty free events. The kind of festival other towns envy us.

Here is a secret every local keeps to themselves: the best month is not August, it is September. The water is still warm, the terraces can breathe, and the town brings out its finest cultural programme of the year. Le Temps d’Aimer is the centrepiece.

Serious weight, and plenty for free

On the bill: Benjamin Millepied’s Summerland with November Ultra, Hervé Koubi’s Sol Invictus, and of course Malandain Ballet Biarritz on home ground. Around twenty companies, four world premieres and eighty performances spread between the Gare du Midi and the whole coastline.

A festival that asks no prior knowledge

That is its real strength. More than forty free events let you come in through the side door: battles, outdoor pieces, street performances. Whether you are a connoisseur or a complete newcomer, there is an evening for you — and nobody will ask your opinion on floor work.

Twelve days when dance leaves the theatres and takes the town.

The local tip

Tickets start at €7.20, and a good share of the programme costs nothing. Start with a free outdoor event before booking an indoor evening: it is the best way to find out what speaks to you.
