Tribute acts have a poor reputation among purists and fill rooms everywhere else. Forevernu! embraces the principle entirely: four specialist British outfits, four repertoires, and an audience that has known every riff by heart for twenty years.

A room built for this

The Atabal, 700 standing capacity, is exactly the right format: big enough for the sound to have scale, small enough for the floor to move as one. It is also the region’s contemporary music venue, and it is markedly underused by Biarritz residents themselves.

The local tip

The Atabal is out at La Négresse, on the edge of town — factor in the journey, this is not the centre. There is parking but it fills; two cars or a shared taxi remains the better option on a big night.

Twenty years on, the riffs have not shifted.
