La Jungle and Zombie Zombie — an electro-rock night built on trance

Belgian duo La Jungle present their seventh album, An Order Of Things, sharing the stage with France’s Zombie Zombie. A high-intensity night on 10 November.

La Jungle make repetitive, frontal music — drums, guitar, machines, no vocals — aimed less at listening than at an altered state. Zombie Zombie work neighbouring territory, between krautrock and analogue synths. On the same bill, the two make for a coherent and thoroughly exhausting evening.

What “trance” means here

No metaphor involved: both acts build on repetition and accumulation, with tracks that climb for ten minutes without ever coming back down. It is physical, it is loud, and it is best experienced standing in the middle of the room rather than leaning on the bar.

The local tip

Ear protection genuinely recommended — the Atabal does not hold back on volume for this kind of bill, and plugs are usually available at the door. Doors at 7.30pm: both bands play full sets and the night ends early for the genre.
