Girls in Hawaii at the Atabal
Music · Pop-rock · Atabal
Twenty years of Belgian melancholic pop, from a band that never tried to sound like its era. At the Atabal on 21 November, in a format that suits them far better than festivals.
Girls in Hawaii belong to that generation of Belgian bands who built a patient body of work at a distance from fashion. Clear melodies, careful arrangements, and a melancholy that never tips into self-pity: this is autumn music, and the calendar suits it.
A room built to their scale
The Atabal’s 700 standing places are exactly where this repertoire works: intimate enough for the nuances to carry, wide enough for the crescendos to have room. At festivals this kind of band gets diluted; in a venue it comes into its own.
The local tip
A Saturday night in November at 8.30pm: the best slot of the season, and probably one of the fastest-selling Atabal dates of the autumn. Do not linger over the box office.
