In December, the Grande Plage in Biarritz belongs to the paddlers. Several dozen stand-up paddle regulars take to the water every morning, in any weather, as soon as the swell allows. This is not sports tourism — it is a habit woven into the daily life of the town. The low, golden winter light falling on the silhouettes of the villas and the casino turns the outing into something close to meditation. Several surf schools offer supervised sessions from November to March. The water, between 14 and 16°C, remains navigable in a 4/3 wetsuit.
