My Partner, My Love, My Headaches — at the Gare du Midi
Culture · Theatre · Gare du Midi
An interactive comedy about the failings of couples, with audience participation. On Halloween night it is as good a proposition as any — and probably less frightening than the genre average.
Boulevard comedy has a poor reputation and could not care less, because it fills theatres. This one adds a layer: the audience is drawn in, which makes every performance a slightly different object and the evening far less predictable than advertised.
What “interactive” means here
No gratuitous exposure, rest assured: participation stays collective and good-natured. Its real purpose is to drop the barrier between stage and stalls — a simple device, but a devastating one in a comedy about couples, where everyone recognises themselves anyway.
The local tip
Bring someone, preferably someone you share daily life with: half the laughs come from the glance you exchange. And if you hate being addressed from the stage, avoid the first five rows.
On 31 October in Biarritz, laughing is also an option.
