Laurent Gerra — Se met à table!
Culture · Comedy · Gare du Midi
A satirical review of the news, latest edition. Politicians, singers and the rest all get carved up on 11 November at the Gare du Midi. A date long and wrongly advertised as 30 October — it is the 11th.
Gerra practises an art that has become rare: music-hall political impersonation, with orchestra, costumes and relentless pace. You may find the formula dated, but it still fills 1,400-seat halls, and the precision of the machinery commands respect even when the target does not interest you.
Clockwork craftsmanship
The show rests on considerable vocal work and a rhythm that leaves no dead time. This is unashamedly popular entertainment, written to land from the front row to the back — which in a hall this size is a skill in itself.
The local tip
Watch the date: several online ticket sites circulated an incorrect 30 October. The show is on Wednesday 11 November at 8pm. Check your ticket if you booked early in the season.
Music-hall political satire, still standing.
