Every January, the Halle d’Iraty hosts the gathering for wine and food enthusiasts. One of the rare large fairs of the quiet season, and a chance to fill the cellar without going through the supermarkets.

Aux Vignobles! belongs to that family of fairs bringing together independent winemakers from across France, with tasting as the principle and direct sales as the purpose. It is also one of the few January events that gets Biarritz residents out of the house.

What you actually do there

You taste, you talk, you leave with boxes. The value lies in direct contact with the growers: five minutes of conversation tells you what no label ever will. And fair prices are generally below retail.

The local tip

Come on Friday or Sunday morning rather than Saturday afternoon: the aisles are passable and the growers have time to talk. Arrange transport that is not your own, and leave an empty box in the boot. Exact 2027 dates are still to be confirmed.

The only fair that gets Biarritz out of the house in January.
