Pianos & Sunset — open-air piano facing the Côte des Basques
Music · Piano · Open air
The Piano Festival’s real secret, the one the regulars keep to themselves: not everything happens indoors. On 3 August the keyboards come outside, facing the ocean. Free entry.
Alongside the main concerts at the Casino and the Espace Bellevue, the festival sets its pianos outdoors facing the Côte des Basques for the Pianos & Sunset sessions. A piano, the ocean handling the second half, the sky turning pink. Yes, it is a postcard. No, we are not going to apologise.
Free, and probably the finest moment of the festival
Here is the pleasing contradiction: the best thing the Piano Festival offers costs nothing. The outdoor format changes the listening entirely — you sit on the grass or the low wall, people come and go, and the music coexists with the background noise of the town without ever suffering for it.
The local tip
Arrive at least half an hour early: the good seating spots go quickly, and the whole point of the event is the late-afternoon light. Bring something to sit on and a light layer — the westerly tends to pick up just as the sun drops.
A piano, the ocean, and not a cent to pay.
