Puppetmastaz — puppet hip-hop lands at the Atabal

A Berlin hip-hop collective whose members are puppets. It is not a joke, it has been running for twenty-five years, and the Solid Honey Tour reaches Biarritz on 1 October.

Puppetmastaz are among the strangest propositions in European hip-hop: rapping puppets, absurdist humour, narrated passages, and behind all of it production that stands up perfectly well. The concept disorients you for thirty seconds, then you forget entirely that you are watching puppets.

A show that crosses generations

This is one of the few Atabal bills you can bring children to without anyone losing interest. The absurdity works on every level, and the music is solid enough to hold an adult audience for the whole set.

The local tip

Stand near the front if you are bringing children — the puppets are lost entirely from the back of the room. And arrive for doors at 7.30pm, as the set runs shorter than a standard rock night.
